A person attempted to stab congressman and gubernatorial prospect Lee Zeldin (R-NY) at a campaign event in Fairport, New York, on Thursday.

The attacker was promptly suppressed, and Zeldin is unharmed. Movie acquired by the Washington Examiner exhibits the incident unfold.

A male climbed onstage, grabbed Zeldin in the center of his marketing campaign speech, and attempted to stab the Republican. The person appeared to yell "You're finished! You're done!" as he accosted Zeldin.

A group of men and women rushed the phase and took the male down. Practically 11 minutes soon after the tried assault, Zeldin was back again onstage and resumed the speech.

"So as I was stating," Zeldin stated as he resumed his remarks, garnering laughter from the group.

Eric Amidon, Zeldin's campaign manager, stated the guy who attempted to attack Zeldin onstage appeared to have brass knuckles with sharp spikes on them.

"He was taken down very promptly," Amidon said of the attacker, introducing that Zeldin completed his speech immediately after the assault, which was "ironically" about criminal offense and bail reform.

"He's Okay," Amidon informed the Washington Examiner of Zeldin's problem. "As soon as it was all in excess of and the man was taken into custody, he went again up and finished his speech."

Zeldin spokeswoman Katie Vincentz individually launched a statement that mentioned all customers of the marketing campaign staff are protected and that "significantly a lot more should be performed" about safety in the Empire State.

Another person attempted to stab me on phase during this evening’s rally, but thankfully, I was ready to grab his wrist and end him for a several times right until other individuals tackled him," he said. "I’m alright, and [Alison Esposito, the New York Republican Party's candidate for lieutenant governor], and all other attendees are harmless. The attacker is in custody. Grateful for the attendees who stepped up immediately to help and the regulation enforcement officers who promptly responded. I’m as resolute as at any time to do my component to make NY safe once more."

Hochul condemned the tried assault on Zeldin on Thursday.

"My workforce has informed me about the incident at Lee Zeldin's campaign function tonight. Relieved to hear that Congressman Zeldin was not hurt and that the suspect is in custody. I condemn this violent actions in the strongest phrases possible — it has no spot in New York," Hochul explained in a tweet.
