A member of the Jan. 6 committee reported he expects that former Vice President Mike Pence will communicate with investigators.

"I would presume he is heading to come ahead and testify voluntarily," Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-MD) claimed in the course of an job interview that aired Sunday on CBS News's Encounter the Nation.

Pence has so far been noncommittal about appearing prior to the Jan. 6 committee if he is referred to as on for testimony.

"[In] the Structure, we have 3 coequal branches. Any invitation to be directed to me — I would have to reflect on the exclusive purpose that I was serving as vice president," Pence mentioned during a journey to New Hampshire last thirty day period. "I you should not want to prejudge. If [there was] at any time any official invitation rendered to us, we would give it thanks thing to consider."

Pence resisted tension by previous President Donald Trump and his supporters to stall the certification of President Joe Biden's 2020 victory and deliver electoral votes back again to quite a few battleground states where GOP-led legislatures could try to overturn the benefits above meant fears about fraud and irregularities.

He confronted the wrath of supporters of Trump on Jan. 6, 2021, when rioters stormed the Capitol as the former vice president presided in excess of the certification, and chants of "hang Mike Pence" could be heard from some of the protesters. Pence, together with his spouse and daughter, was rushed to an underground Senate loading dock, but he refused to go away the Capitol sophisticated and returned afterwards that night to end the counting of electoral votes.
