Two bears killed following a girl was attacked by a sow in Colorado

Colorado authorities killed two bears, a sow and her cub, following the sow attacked a girl in the town of New Castle on the Western Slope early Wednesday morning.

The attack happened all-around 2 a.m. in the Castle Valle Ranch community, in accordance to a law enforcement division news release.

The attack took place when the girl saw that the lid to her incredibly hot tub was partially removed and she went outside to adjust it, according to Colorado Parks and Wildlife.

“While correcting the lid she found a bear coming out of a tree and charging at her,” a CPW information launch said. “The bear, later on established to be the sow, swiped at the female, hitting and severely lacerating her arm.”

The injured lady, who also suffered back again lacerations, was ready to get back inside of her residence and call 911 for support.

When area police arrived on scene they spotted four bears, a sow and a few cubs, still nearby the home. Law enforcement notified the CPW and wildlife officers “instructed the law enforcement officer to shoot and eliminate the sow,” the CPW launch claimed. Police tracked the sow to a tree near New Castle Center School and shot the bear.

At about 3 a.m., state wildlife officers arrived on scene. “Based on info identified about the assault on the target at that time, CPW could not decide if the sow or one of the cubs experienced attacked the lady,” the release explained.

A decision was designed to euthanize the bears and a single cub was euthanized, in accordance to the CPW release. The two remaining cubs were being in a tree along a active street and various properties.

As the investigation ongoing, wildlife officials determined that the sow was the only bear concerned in the attack. At that level, the CPW made the decision that the two surviving cubs would not be euthanized. The cubs have been tranquilized, eradicated from the tree and taken to a CPW facility to be evaluated.

The bodies of the sow and dead cub are staying despatched to the CPW’s Wildlife Wellbeing Lab for necropsy.

The 4 bears had been sighted in the place prior to the assault, but they did not display any aggression in direction of human beings or other behaviors that would have prompted a need to have to relocate the animals, the CPW launch explained.
