SANTIAGO RODRÍGUEZ TAVERNA could not celebrate this Sunday in the final of the Barletta Challenger, in Italy, after falling against the Japanese Shintaro Mochizuki 6-1, 6-4.
Rodríguez Taverna, born in the Buenos Aires city of Pilar and ranked 254th in the ATP ranking, was defeated by the Japanese Mochizuki (276th) after an hour and 3 minutes of dispute.
The Challenger in Barletta, a city located in the southern Italian region of Puglia , was held on brick dust surface courts and distributed 73,000 euros in prizes.
Argentine tennis players have won four Challenger tournaments this year, the category that follows the ATP in importance.
Juan Manuel Cerúndolo obtained two titles,both in the facilities of Club Náutico Hacoaj, in the Buenos Aires city of Tigre; Andrea Collarini lifted the trophy in the Challenger played in Piracicaba , São Paulo, in Brazil; and Federico Coria became champion in Concepción, in Chile.
